Good photographs attract viewers. Good photographs can popularize a knitting pattern. I won’t say any specific names, but I have seen patterns popularized by the mere quality of a picture taken. They change reality and make it seem more ideal. But why shouldn’t good photographs — the ones with depth-of-field, macro, good composition, and pleasing structure — be aesthetically-pleasing to us? It just seems a bit unfair (unfair to me because my photographs are terrible). But that would be the blogosphere. We have no vision into the “real lives” of the knitters, or writers, or the street photographers, excepting these photographs. They are what we see.

frogging.
July 5, 2008I just frogged an entire sweater. Average gauge, DK, almost sport-weight, yarn, size 8 needles, so I guess it wasn’t a total loss. I used around 650 yds of Tahki Cotton Classic. But I did spend so much time on it. I was very much into the process. The yarn makes my fingers numb. Cotton, of course. Is this supposed to be a cathartic experience? I’m not sure. I almost regret frogging it. But then I don’t. I wasn’t going to wear it. Sentimental value, perhaps? No, it’s yarn. And now I’m knitting a Shetland Triangle, which should be nice..
